Cruising information

Since 6 July, protective face masks have become compulsory in the interior and exterior areas of vessels on all scheduled cruises operated by the Lake Zurich Navigation Company (ZSG). Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we are operating a standardized timetable up to and including 30 September. The special high season timetable in July and August is therefore no longer valid.

In accordance with current regulations to maintain social distancing and prevent ticket area crowding, please purchase your ticket(s) before boarding or buy contactless after boarding.

We are currently permitted until further notice to operate boats carrying a reduced passenger capacity until further notice. We therefore thank you for your understanding. This regulation does not apply to the shuttle service Thalwil - Erlenbach - Küsnacht and Wädenswil - Männedorf - Stäfa.

Cruise questions-and-answers relating to COVID-19

Are boats operating to ZSG’s normal timetable?

In general yes – except in July and August, when certain cruises will not be on offer. Our online and notice timetables have already been adapted. All information about the departure times of round trips from Zurich and Rapperswil can be found in the following PDFs:

Are steamboats also operating?

Yes. Steamboats are operating from Zurich Bürkliplatz as follows:

Where can I buy my ticket?

We recommend that you purchase your ticket online or contactless at the ZVV Ticket Shop. Otherwise, you can obtain your ticket at the Zürich Bürkliplatz sales point, from all ZVV ticket machines or directly on board. We ask you to observe the distancing regulations when buying tickets, and request that you make cashless payments whenever possible.

Do I have to reserve a seat in advance?

Seat reservations are possible only for the on-board restaurant (together with consumption).

Am I sure I have a seat on the cruise?

Due to the protection measures now in force (for example, distance maintenance), our boats are currently operating at reduced capacity. We expect that on some days the main cruises will be very busy. The capacity forecast of the boats can be found in the PDF below. We recommend that you arrive at the departure landing stage at least 10 minutes before your cruise departure.

Can my bike be transported on the boat?

The ZSG is under no obligation to transport bicycles. However, bicycles can be transported to a very limited extent.

When are the boats in Zürich Bürkliplatz and Rapperswil ready for boarding?

The long lake cruises from Zürich Bürkliplatz and Rapperswil are ready for boarding 10 minutes before departure.

During the cruise
What security measures apply?

Our security measures are based on the guidelines of Switzerland’s "Tourist Traffic" protection plan and the Federal Office of Public Health. A series of measures are implemented on each boat to protect the health and safety of our passengers and employees:

  • Increased cleaning
  • reduced passenger capacity
  • urgent recommendation to wear a face mask if the 2-metre distance to other guests cannot be maintained
  • Hand disinfection facilities
  • Hygiene masks on sale
  • In the marked on-board restaurant areas, the protection plan of Switzerland’s hospitality industry (GastroSuisse/Hotellerie Suisse) applies
Are the on-board restaurants open?

Since 14 September 2020, the culinary service on scheduled cruises has been reduced.

Can I make cashless payments?

  Yes. All major payment cards are accepted for cruise ticket and on-board restaurant purchases.

Do I need to wear a hygiene mask?

As on all public transport in Switzerland, a general mask obligation will apply on all our ships from Monday, 6 July. Until then, an urgent mask recommendation applies if the 1.5-metre distance between passengers cannot be maintained.

Masks can be removed for eating and drinking. Protective masks can be purchsed at the cashiers desk.

What do I have to consider on board?

Please follow the on-board directives and comply with the instructions of the crew. We kindly ask you to respect the usual distancing regulations.

Allocation of steamboats

Our historic paddle steamers Stadt Rapperswil (1914) and Stadt Zürich (1909) are operating regularly up until 30 September 2020 - on the following round trips:

Would you like to know when your favourite boat is under way? The allocation of all boats can be called up online four to five days in advance. Please note that on the day of the cruise, short-term changes of boat are no longer notified online.
