The Lake Zürich Navigation Company
The Zürichsee Schifffahrtgesellschaft − the Lake Zürich Navigation Company − was founded in 1890/91 under the name of Zürcher Dampfbootgesellschaft (Zürich Steamship Company). In 1957, it changed its name to the Zürichsee Schifffahrtgesellschaft − or ZSG for short.
Nowadays, the ZSG is a joint stock company with share capital totalling CHF 11 million. The share capital is divided into 110,000 bearer shares, each with a nominal value of CHF 100; two-thirds of these shares are publicly owned and one-third are in private possession. An annual meeting of shareholders is held at the end of June each year.
Since 27 May 1990, the ZSG is the only shipping company to be part of the Zürich Public Transport Network (ZVV). As a result, customers can benefit from extremely favourable zone tariffs on all scheduled boat services.
The ZSG transports over 1.5 million passengers every year.
The three pillars of the ZSG:
- Scheduled services and "dreamboat" cruises (approx. 60% of overall sales)
- Private charters such as company outings, presentations, anniversaries etc. (approx. 25% of sales)
- Boats are rented for exhibitions like the Expovina wine fair, Whisky Ship etc. (approx. 15% of overall sales)
